GREAT LAKES COMMISSION ANNOUNCES
GREAT LAKES DAY IN WASHINGTON, D.C.
The Great Lakes Commission invites all stakeholders interested
in Great Lakes policy issues to participate in Great Lakes Day
(March 13) in Washington. This annual tradition, cosponsored
by the Northeast-Midwest Institute, will focus on an array of
legislative, appropriations and policy priorities of the Great
Lakes states as voiced through the Great Lakes Commission.
Senator John Glenn (D-OH) and Representative Vern Ehlers
(R-MI) are featured speakers and will share their views on
Great Lakes issues and the first session of the 105th Congress.
The Great Lakes Commission Chair and vice-chair (Donald R.
Vonnahme and Irene Brooks respectively) will present
Commission priorities.
All friends of the Great Lakes are also invited to attend a
Great Lakes Issues Briefing immediately following the
breakfast. The issues briefing will feature brief presentations
from various Great Lakes organization directors and agency
officials. They will emphasize legislative, appropriations and
program needs for fiscal year 1998 in three areas:
environmental protection; resource management; and Great
