Approps update

	GLIN-folks:

The Appropriations Committee is expected to formally approve the 602(b)
allocations early this week. These allocations represent the amounts that each
approps subcommittee has to allocate to agencies under its jurisdiction. This
is how they stand now for subcommittees relevant to the Great Lakes environment:

Ag gets 13.650 billion (an increase of $43 million from FY97)
Energy & water gets $19.960 billion (a cut of $66 million from FY97)
Interior gets $13.000 billion (an increase of $513 million from FY97)
Transportation gets $12.511 billion (an increase of $1.622 billion from FY97)
VA, HUD gets $60.951 billion (an increase of $3.132 billion from FY97)

The appropriations subcommittees should be scheduling their mark-ups
soon. So far, the following mark-ups are scheduled:

House Interior subcommittee (as of last week) was planning a Tuesday markup (10
am, B308 Rayburn)

House VA, HUD has tentatively set June 25 as a mark up, with full committee
markup on July 8 (staff expect the Senate process to lag behind by about 2-3
weeks)

We will keep you informed of the outcomes of these markups regarding
Great Lakes environmental programs.
