RIVER RAISIN, MICHIGAN SEDIMENT SURVEY

RIVER RAISIN, MICHIGAN SEDIMENT SURVEY

The U.S. EPA's Great Lakes National Program Office and the Michigan
Department of Environmental Quality collaborated on a sediment sampling
survey of the River Raisin from May 27 - June 3, 1997. A total of 28
deep sediment cores were collected from onboard the R/V Mudpuppy. The
purpose of the study was to further delineate locations where previous
sampling showed PCBs and in some cases, elevated levels of metals to be
present. The sampling also helped to further characterize the extent of
chemical contamination that potentially exists outside the boundaries of
previously sampled locations.
