TWO NEW GREAT LAKES COASTAL MARSH PUBLICATIONS
TWO NEW GREAT LAKES COASTAL MARSH PUBLICATIONS
Two new publications by the Michigan Natural Features Inventory (MNFI)
for The Nature Conservancy's Great Lakes Program are now available. The
first, Michigan's Great Lakes Coastal Wetlands: Definition, Variability,
and Classification, is an analysis of Michigan's Great Lakes coastal
marshes. It distinguishes marshes vegetatively and examines abiotic
variability among different types. The resulting classification
emphasizes physiological process. The second publication, Vegetative
Response in Michigan's Great Lakes Marshes to Great Lakes Water-Level
Fluctuations, explores changes in species composition and relates any
differences to water level fluctuations if possible. Implications for
developing a classification based on this variability are then studied.
Both publications were completed with grants from U.S. EPA's Great Lakes
National Program Office and are available by contacting MNFI staff at
(517) 335 - 4580.
