Shoreline Community Foundations Commit to the Environment

>From Duluth, Minnesota to Rochester, New York, 21 shoreline community foundations have been selected in a competitive process to participate in the Great Lakes Community Foundation Environmental Collaborative. The Collaborative will help these community foundations to convene community groups on environmental issues while building permanent endowment funds to provide income for environmental grantmaking.

Initiated by grants from the Great Lakes Protection Fund of Chicago and the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, the Collaborative is expected to generate more than $250,000 in local endowment support for environmental needs. Participating community foundations will receive: technical assistance in fund development, up to $5,000 for technology, speaker fees, and other capacity building needs and up to $15,000 to start or strengthen permanent endowment funds.
