Appropriations Newsflash - Mackinaw

The Senate Appropriations Committee Report on the Transportation 
Appropriations bill provides "$2 million for concept exploration to refine 
the specifications and costs for a heavy icebreaking replacement vessel, 
including a new multi-mission vessel, for the 53-year-old Mackinaw."  The 
Committee expects the Coast Guard to issue am interim status report on the 
concept exploration to the Committee by May 1, 1998.
