Here is an update on Superfund, excerpted from Congressional Green

>Comprehensive superfund reform legislation will be introduced in the
next two weeks by Rep. Sherwood Boehlert (R-NY), who said last week that
>he was committed to moving a bill through his water resources and
>environment subcommittee and the House Transportation Committee before the
>close of the congressional session.

>An additional $650 million for the superfund program for fiscal 1998
>will be available only if a comprehensive reform package is enacted by
>May 15 of next year.  
>
>Meanwhile, negotiations on a bipartisan, compromise superfund reform
>measure continue among Senate Environment and Public Works Committee majority
>and minority members and administration officials.  Liability is the major
>roadblock.  Negotiating are Sens. Smith (R-NH), Chafee (R-RI), Lautenberg
>(D-NJ), and Max Baucus (D-MT), and EPA Administrator Carol Browner.  However,
>there is no date for introduction and markup of the bill in the Senate.
