CEC seeks executive director



The Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) is currently seeking
an Executive Director for the CEC Secretariat, based in Montreal,
Canada.  The Executive Director is the principal officer of the
Secretariat and reports directly to the CEC Council, which is composed
of cabinet-level representatives from Canada, Mexico and the United
States.  The Executive Director is responsible for all aspects of the
Secretariat operations. 

This appointment is for one three-year term, which may be renewed by the
Council for one additional three-year term. The Executive Director
Responsibilities include appointing and supervising the staff
(approximately 50 individuals) of the Secretariat; following general
standards established by the Council; developing the draft annual work
program and budget of the Commission; evaluating submissions on
enforcement matters and developing factual records as appropriate;
supervising development of all Secretariat reports and factual records;
assisting in the consultation and dispute resolution process between
Parties; communicating reports and recommendations to Parties and, as
appropriate, to the public; and others. 

Qualifications - Candidates for Executive Director should possess the
following attributes: a strong commitment to environmental concerns;
sensitivity towards the multi-cultural issues that the CEC addresses;
extensive knowledge of environmental matters, including familiarity with
trade-and-environment matters, in North America; substantial experience
in management; fluency in at least two of the Commission's official
languages; citizen of the United States of America able to articulate a
vision for achieving the objectives of the North American Agreement on
Environmental Cooperation; and, supports the North American Free Trade
Agreement.
