CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
SPECIAL SESSION #48
American Society of Limnology and Oceanography
Feb 1-5, 1999
Santa Fe, New Mexico
Abstract Deadline: 18 September 1998
The need to produce research at the basin scale in large lakes and
enclosed seas has driven many efforts over the past few years. These
research efforts are characterized by an emphasis on the whole basin as
the unit of analysis, leading to efforts towards coherent, integrated
functional models. The development of these large-scale analyses is a
great challenge for the scientific community, since the efforts are to
be truly interdisciplinary, reaching up to the social sciences needed
to include humans as a factor in the basins. The session will be
devoted to presenting results on the function of these systems at the
scale of basins, with an emphasis in sharing approaches to integrate
knowledge at the basin scale and to provide a basis for comparative
analyses of large aquatic ecosystems.
Co-chairs: Stephen B. Brandt, NOAA
Elizabeth Lipiatou, European Commission
