Toxics Reduction on the Agenda for Lake Superior Binational Forum Meeting

	The Lake Superior Binational Forum will hold a public meeting Nov. 6-7 in
Two Harbors, Minn. Part of the meeting will be devoted to a public
workshop, held from 8:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 6, to discuss the
progress being made toward the Forum's goal of reducing toxic substances in
Lake Superior. The meeting and workshop sessions will be held at the
Superior Shores Resort and Conference Center in Two Harbors, Minn. The
public is invited to attend and participate at any time throughout the
weekend.	The Lake Superior Binational Forum works to restore and protect
Lake Superior by advising the governments of Canada, the United States,
Michigan, Minnesota, Ontario and Wisconsin on ways to eliminate chemical
discharges and toxic substances from the lake and ways to build sustainable
communities in the watershed. This meeting will address progress made
toward virtual elimination of nine persistent, toxic and bioaccumulative
substances found in Lake Superior. These substances, !
including mercury, dioxin, 	
	To encourage more action, the Forum has invited all the elected
representatives of state, provincial and federal governments in the region
to attend the meeting and contribute to the process. 
	The weekend event will also include a multimedia presentation at 7:00 p.m.
on Nov. 6 by photographer and writer team John and Ann Mahan. Their
program, "Lake Superior Story and Spirit," explores the natural and human
history of Lake Superior, and highlights the interconnectedness and
interdependence of life in the region. This program is also open to the
public.
