Quebec's Parti Quebecois returned to power

Quebecers voted in yesterday's provincial election to preserve the status
quo of constitutional uncertainty by returning Lucien Bouchard and the Parti
Quebecois to power with a solid majority in the National Assembly.

But while the Liberals lost out in the seat count, they got more votes than
the PQ
province-wide, thereby spoiling PQ hopes that this election would be a
springboard for a new sovereignty referendum.
