Sponsored by the Friends of Stone Laboratory and Ohio Sea Grant
Free and Open to the Public
Ohio State University, Columbus Campus, Kottman Hall (west campus area)
Have you ever wondered about the "good old days" on Lake Erie's Gibraltar Island before it became Stone Laboratory? Are you curious about what is currently going on at Stone Lab? The Friends of Stone Lab and Ohio Sea Grant are sponsoring the first annual Winter Program and Reception on Saturday, February 27 for anyone interested in the history and current activities at Stone lab. The event will be held from 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Ohio State University's Columbus campus in Kottman Hall.
Following a reception in the lobby, presentations will begin at 1:30 with a slide program about Stone Lab from Dr. Jeffrey Reutter, Director of Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Lab. The feature presentation will be "Cooke Castle - Past, Present, and Future" by John R. Kleberg , Assistant Vice President, Business and Administration, OSU. Using historical photographs, John will present a unique view into life on Gibraltar Island, as well as a glimpse into the life of its first owner, Jay Cooke. This was the most highly attended guest lecture last summer at Stone Lab and required a second presentation to accommodate all the attendees.
Additional Sea Grant research presentations will be given on toxic substances and alien species by Dr. Susan Fisher; and artificial reefs by Sea Grant District Specialist Dave Kelch.
Free parking will be available in a number of lots near Kottman Hall. Please RSVP by calling the Ohio Sea Grant office at 614/292-8949 or e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org by February 24.
