Public Invited to International Zebra Mussel Conference
Special One-Day Workshop Offered
The spread of Eurasian watermilfoil, rusty crayfish, and other aquatic nuisance
species to Minnesota and Wisconsin lakes has caused public concern. However,
the spread is not inevitable. Lake associations, shoreland property owners,
members of conservation and recreation organizations, and other interested
people are invited to participate in a special one-day workshop called, "It's
Not Just a Matter of Time." This special session is planned in conjunction with
the 9th International Zebra Mussel and Aquatic Nuisance Species Conference,
Thursday, April 29 from 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., at the Duluth Entertainment
Convention Center.
The workshop will feature speakers from the international conference who will
discuss what is being done to prevent the spread of exotics, why people should
care, and how they can help. Experts will provide updates on invaders such as
zebra mussels, rusty crayfish, purple loosestrife, Eurasian watermilfoil,
curlyleaf pondweed, ruffe, and the round goby.
Learn what agencies and organizations are doing locally and nationally to
address this growing issue. Discuss your concerns with experts and your needs
with other citizens. Bring your ideas on what can be done to stimulate policy
debate and action. Registra-tion is $15, which includes lunch and refreshments.
Come curious, leave with a plan! To register, or for more information, contact
