Capital Ideas for a Sustainable Lansing: Community
Financial Instruments, Institutions, & Investments

Join Michael Shuman, author of Going Local  for a
lecture and dialogue about successful community
financial systems and techniques that are already
being used in many communities around the world.
Learn about community corporations, community
development financial institutions, ecological
investments, green investment portfolios, green taxes,
local currencies, local socially responsible
investment funds, micro-enterprise lending, time
dollars, and more. Then, help brainstorm community
financial options for the Greater Lansing area.

3:30 – 4:00 Get acquainted.

4:00 – 5:30 Lecture & Discussion: Shuman sets the
stage by describing community financial options that
work!

5:30 – 7:30 Dinner & Dialogue: Buffet pizza, salads,
beverages, and desserts, while we brainstorm about
local economic and community sustainable development.

Suggested contribution: $25   If you buy Shuman’s book
at U.O. for $28,  20% of the proceeds go to Lansing
area sustainability efforts.
