Nominations Sought for 1999 Lake Erie Awards

Do you know an individual or organization whose dedication to preserving 
Lake Erie has been truly outstanding?  This is an opportunity to give these 
Ohio citizens and organizations the special recognition they deserve for 
their outstanding contributions toward the protection and restoration of 
Lake Erie.

Nominate them for the 1999 Ohio Lake Erie Awards, presented by the Ohio 
Lake Erie Commission. One individual and one organization receive this 
distinct honor each year.  Nominations will be accepted until Friday, July 
23, 1999.

The Ohio Lake Erie Awards were established in 1995 to honor a citizen and 
an organization whose efforts have greatly enhanced our Great Lake. 
 Previous individual recipients are Edith Chase, Jack Waldock, Dr. Kathleen 
Barber and the late George B. Garrett.  Previous organization recipients 
are Franz Theodore Stone Laboratory, Black Swamp Bird Observatory, Lake 
Erie Circle Tour and Lake Erie Wing Watch.

This year's winners will be announced at the Commission's 8th Annual Ohio 
Lake Erie Conference on Sept. 1, 1999, at Bowling Green State University's 
Firelands Campus in Huron.  Nomination forms are available on the Ohio Lake

The Ohio Lake Erie Commission is comprised of the directors of the Ohio 
Environmental Protection Agency and the departments of Natural Resources, 
Transportation, Development, Health and Agriculture.  The Commission was 
established for the purpose of preserving Lake Erie's natural resources, 
protecting the quality of waters and the ecosystem, and promoting economic 
development of the region.
