GLIN==> 1999 Annual Meeting of the Great Lakes Commission, Sept. 13-15

Celebrating Interstate and International Cooperation in Water Resources
Management

1999 Annual Meeting of the Great Lakes Commission
September 13-15, 1999
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Policymakers and opinion leaders from throughout the binational Great
Lakes-St. Lawrence region and other parts of the United States and
Canada will convene to discuss the following topics, among others:

– National and international issues in resource management
– How regional organizations coordinate themselves to influence policy
– How regions outside the Great Lakes basin address the issues of water
supply, water export and clean water funding
– The mechanisms that exist between and among the United States, Canada
and Mexico to address transboundary concerns and opportunities
– Organizing regional organizations throughout North America to advance
individual and collective interests

Co-sponsored by the Interstate Council on Water Policy and other
regional organizations, the Great Lakes Commission’s Annual Meeting will
begin with a joint evening reception on Sept. 13. The Great Lakes
states and provinces will convene on Sept. 14 for the Commission
business meeting. The session on interstate and international
cooperation will begin in the afternoon and conclude on Sept. 15. All
attendees will enjoy a dinner
cruise on the Gateway Clipper and an opportunity to meet colleagues from
throughout the U.S., Canada and beyond.

A meeting highlight will be the signing of a declaration by all regional
organizations present, which will formalize plans to collaboratively
work to raise the national and international profile – and effectiveness
– of interjurisdictional river basin organizations.

A detailed agenda with specific sessions and prominent speakers will
soon be available on the Great Lakes Commission’s web site
(http://www.glc.org). In the interim, you are invited to register for
the meeting and make hotel arrangements by August 23, 1999. A
