GLIN==> NEMW/Great Lakes Hill Update - WRDA 1999

        In parallel moves last Thursday, the House and Senate each passed the 
other's "Water Resources Development Act of 1999" substituting their own bill 
text as an amendment and appointing conferees.  The Senate did not substitute 
the 'compromise language' developed unilaterally a few weeks ago and previously 
reported here.

        House conferees are:
                Shuster, Young (AK), Boehlert, Baker, Doolittle, Sherwood,      
                Oberstar, Borski, Tauscher and Baird.
        Senate conferees are:
                Chafee, Warner, Smith (NH), Voinovich, Baucus, Moynihan and     
                Boxer.

        The conference has not yet been scheduled, but staff-level negotiations 
have resumed.
