Site of the Month for August: Oil Planning and Response Section, U.S.
EPA Region 5
<http://www.epa.gov/region5/oil/>
Nearly 40 On-Scene Coordinators respond to spills within the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency's Region 5 (IL, IN, MI, MN, OH and WI).
To help protect the region's resources from the damaging effects of oil,
the Oil Planning and Response Section is leading a project to map
sensitive environmental and economic resources that may require
protection in the event of a spill. The Section and its OSCs are
actively involved in area contingency planning. This includes facility
inspections and spill exercises that are performed throughout the course
of the year to ensure that regulated facilities are complying with spill
prevention and safety requirements, and to test the adequacy of spill
contingency plans.
