Ohio Lake Erie Commission Will Host 8th Annual
Ohio Lake Erie Conference Sept. 1 in Huron, OH

The Ohio Lake Erie Commission will host the 8th Annual Ohio Lake Erie 
Conference on Wednesday, September 1, 1999 in Huron, OH, featuring programs 
and projects that preserve, restore and protect Lake Erie.  The day-long 
conference will be held at the Firelands Campus of Bowling Green State 

The main focus of the conference will be the changing Lake Erie water 
levels and efforts to restrict inter-basin diversion of Great Lakes water. 
 The Commission will announce the 1999 Lake Erie Protection Fund (LEPF) 
awards and several LEPF projects will be featured. This event is geared 
toward concerned citizens, researchers and Great Lakes representatives, 
along with regional, state, federal and Canadian officials.

The 8th Annual Ohio Lake Erie Conference is an event presented as a part of 
Ohio's public outreach program ~ Coastweeks '99.  Coastweeks is a national 
celebration of our nation's waters and shorelines, creating many 
educational, environmental, and recreational opportunities for Ohioans. 
 Coastweeks is coordinated by the Ohio Lake Erie Commission for all Ohio 
citizens to enjoy August 28 through September 26, 1999.  The goal of this 
program is to increase awareness of the value and fragility of the state's 
greatest natural resource ~ Lake Erie and its shoreline.

In conjunction with the conference, the Ohio Lake Erie Commission will be 
conducting its quarterly meeting on Tuesday, August 31, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. 
at Stone Laboratory, Put-in-Bay, OH.  All
Commission meetings are open to the public.
