GLIN==> mercury survey

Posted on behalf of Glenn Maxham <GMaxham@aol.com>

---
The Save Lake Superior Association is conducting an informal survey of
continued sales of mercury related products in cities around the Great
Lakes. As you know, mercury is among the worst of the persistent toxics in
waters of the Great Lakes. If you can help in gathering data, please do the
following:
    1. Visit drugstores in your community to learn whether mercury-
operated thermometers are for sale. Note the name of the drugstore if it's
part of a regional or national chain.........Walgreen's, Osco, etc.
    2. Stop at hardware and/or electrical service outlets to ask if
mercury-operated switches such as thermostats are for sale. Note the name
of
the outlets if part of a large chain.
    3. Please pass this information to: gmaxham@aol.com
The Save Lake Superior Association vice-president, Glenn Maxham, will
collate
the data, send it back to GLIN-Announce and other listservs, and distribute
it to any environment group on the Great Lakes which is interested in the
survey results.
Depending upon the outcome of the survey, we will formally contact the
firms still selling products in which mercury is used and try to convince
them to pull the product.
