     research project in partial fulfillment of a Master's degree at Oakland

     RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP
     OAKLAND UNIVERSITY
     
     Zooplankton Survey of Lake St. Clair; 2000 - 2001
     
     The Department of Biological Sciences, Oakland University, is seeking 
     a qualified M.S. candidate who is interested in a funded project 
     involving a zooplankton survey of Lake St. Clair.  The successful 
     candidate will receive a research assistantship with a stipend of 
     $13,000 in year one, $14,000 in year two plus remitted tuition.
     
     This project is being supported by the Michigan Great Lakes Protection 
     Fund and is being administered through Oakland University.  Principal 
     Investigators for the project include R.D. Hunter (Oakland 
     University), R.C. Haas (MDNR Fisheries Division), and B.M. Davis 
     (USGS/Biological Resources Division).
     
     Although training will be provided, preference will be given to 
     candidates having some familiarity with identification of crustacean 
     zooplankton.  Candidates must also have a willingness to work from 
     small boats.
     
     Applicants should have, or be close to receiving, a bachelors degree in 
     biology and must be able to begin the program in January (earliest) or 
     April (latest), 2000.  Field work begins in May, 2000.  The successful 
     candidate must be accepted into Oakland's Master of Science Program, 
     while engaged in this research.
     
     Applicants should send transcripts, resume, and cover letter to Dr. 
     Hunter at the address below.  The cover letter should specify 
     availability, completion date of the undergraduate degree, any 
     experience with zooplankton sampling/identification, experience with 
     small boats, and experience with field work in a limnological context. 
     Review of applications will begin on December 6, 1999 and will continue 
     until the position is filled.
