Upcoming Meetings to highlight Stage 3 Lake Superior LaMP

The Lake Superior Alliance is holding a series of public meetings to
highlight the draft stage 3 Lakewide Management Plan.
Seven meetings are scheduled for Lake Superior communities in the US
and Canada. At each, expert presenters will describe the Lake Superior
Binational Program and its goals and highlight the Stage 3 Plan. Meetings
will also feature presentations on what Lake Superior citizens are doing to
meet the goals now.
"We're hoping to find out what Lake Superior's citizens see as the
crucial challenges and opportunities for protecting Lake Superior in the
coming years," said Alliance coordinator Bob Olsgard. "In this way we hope
to help the governments generate a road map for long term protection for
the basin that means something the the watershed's many citizens," he adds.
Unfortunately, time is short. The governments' current plan is to
release a draft of the LaMP in mid-November. The release of the final
Stage 3 LaMP will be earth day, April, 2000.
