IGERT FELLOWSHIPS AT UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO

The National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis at the
University at Buffalo solicits applications from Prospective Graduate
Students interested in pursuing a multidisciplinary Doctoral Concentration
in Geographic Information Science (GI Science). This program is supported
by a grant from the National Science Foundation.

Students in the GI Science program will take a common core of courses, while
also completing requirements for doctorates in one of seven discipline based
departments: Geography, Philosophy, Anthropology, Political Science,
Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Computer Science.
They will obtain research training through mentoring, internships, special
workshops, and the participation in active research programs under six major
research themes: cognitive models of geographic
space; computational implementations of geographic concepts; geographic
information and society; human capital research using GIS; environmental
modeling; and regional modeling and optimization.

Fellowship packages, valued at approximately $22,500 per year, will be
available to applicants who are US citizens or permanent residents. The
fellowship packages include stipends of $15,000, and funded students will
also receive scholarships, fee remission, and other cost of education
allowances. Others may be eligible for graduate, research or teaching
assistantship or other fellowship support through the home academic
departments.

Individuals interested in becoming students in the Geographic Information
Science IGERT program at Buffalo should apply by 1 February 2000 for full
consideration for funding. Applications from minority, female and disabled
