GLIN==> NEMW/Great Lakes Hill Update

     GLIN-folks!

    Just posted to the NEMW website (http://www.nemw.org/glupdate.htm - "Great
Lakes Legislation in the 106th Congress") is an updated listing of the status on
bills of interest to Great Lakes environment and economy. Of particular
interest...

On February 16, Representative Oberstar introduced H.R. 3670 which amends the
Clean Water Act to:

    1) authorize a grants program for the cleanup of Great Lakes Areas of
Concern at $50 million annually for 2001 - 2005. The grants would require a 40%
local match. This is a fairly straightforward authorization of the program
included in the Administration's fiscal 2001 budget.

    2) authorizes a freshwater estuary restoration program. No specific dollar
amount is included. The program would roughly parallel those proposed in the
"Estuary Habitat Restoration Partnership" (HR 1775/S835).

    3) reauthorizes the Great Lakes National Program Office at $40 million/year
for 2001-2005.

    H.R. 3670 has been referred to the Committee on Transportation and
Infrastructure.
