14th ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL GREAT LAKES ST. LAWRENCE MAYORS' CONFERENCE:
May 17-19 in Gary, Indiana

Dear Mayors and Friends of the International Great Lakes St. Lawrence
Mayors' Conference:

I am writing to extend a warm invitation to the 14th annual meeting of
the International Great Lakes St. Lawrence Mayors' Conference (IGLSLMC)
that will be held in Northwest Indiana from May 17-19, 2000.

Northwest Indiana's mayors have been attending the IGLSLMC's annual
conferences for more than ten years because they are an excellent
opportunity to experience the special colleagueship that exists among
mayors and other municipal leaders in the binational Great Lakes St.
Lawrence region. The Conference also affords an exploration of issues of

mutual interest and the continued refinement of a shared regional
vision.

I am delighted to be hosting this year's conference in Gary along with
Gary's sister cities on Indiana's Lake Michigan shoreline of East
Chicago, Hammond, Michigan City, Portage and Whiting. Mayor Steve
Butland of the City of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, is my co-host.

Here are some of the highlights of the conference:

* Mayor Richard Daley of Chicago has invited us to join him at McCormick
Place for a reception, dinner and entertainment on Thursday evening;

* Expert speakers will discuss the Great Lakes St. Lawrence region's
economy, environment and governance at the start of the new millennium;

* Mobile workshops, including on site tours, will take place at U.S.
Steel's Gary Works, Indiana's International Port, and the Hammond
Marina;

* All transportation during the conference, including transfers to and
from Chicago airports, will be provided;

* The conference is headquartered at the Trump Hotel at Gary's
Buffington Harbor complex that includes the Trump and Majestic Star
Casinos and related amenities.

If you represent a municipality, the Gary conference provides a
reasonably priced opportunity to experience the International Great
Lakes St. Lawrence Mayors' Conference, whether or not you choose to be a
member at this time. Other public and private interests are always
welcome and add to the synergism and stimulating discussion that is
inherent in the annual conference.

I am hoping that you will join us in Gary from May 17-19, 2000.

Sincerely,
Scott L. King
Mayor of Gary, Indiana
