Research on Road Weather Information - AGREEMENT BETWEEN
     QUEBEC AND MINNESOTA

QUEBEC, May 10 /CNW/ - The Government of Québec is pleased to announce
the signing of a five-year agreement on participation in the Aurora
pooled
fund, an important consortium of international public entities
administered by
Minnesota whose goal is to conduct research and development ventures in
technologies that make roads more viable in winter.

Because of its climate, Québec has developed enviable skills in terms
of
winter road viability. Its participation in the Aurora pilot projects
will
enable it to share and exchange information with American specialists
on
advanced technologies for weather forecasting and road weather
monitoring.

The Minister of Transport, Guy Chevrette, emphasized that «this
association will allow Québec to participate in developing and
evaluating
technologies that would not be readily accessible to the transport
ministry
     without an international partnership.»

The Minister of International Relations, Louise Beaudoin, was delighted
the agreement with the State of Minnesota has been signed. "The
agreement is
in keeping with our closer relations with the Great Lakes States in
recent
years and, more broadly, with the Québec Decade of the Americas whose
goal is
to strengthen Québec's ties with its continental partners."
