Low Water Warning issued by Stone Laboratory

With the 4th of July and the rest of the busy summer ahead, boaters visiting
Put-in-Bay on Lake Erie are urged to approach all of the public docks and
private marinas from around east side of Gibraltar Island this year due to
lower lake water levels.

In a 2-month period (Mid April - Mid June), Stone Laboratory personnel on
Gibraltar Island have witnessed 73 boats strike the Oak Point Shoal which
extends underwater from the ODNR Oak Point picnic area toward Gibraltar.

While the "Alligator Bar" that extends from Gibraltar toward Oak Point is
much more visible this year, the Oak Point Shoal is still a couple of feet
below the lake surface. It will get shallower as the current seasonal peak
water levels recede throughout the rest of the year.
