EAST AURORA, NY COUPLE TO BE NAMED ENVIRONMENTAL CITIZENS OF THE YEAR

Buffalo, New York - July 13, 2000 – A husband and wife team well known
in the Buffalo area for their commitment to environmental issues will be
the recipients of the Paul MacLennan Environmental Citizen of the Year
Award presented by the Erie County Environmental Education Institute
(ECEEI).

In a special ceremony to be held on Saturday, July 15, 2000, at the
Center for Great Lakes Environmental Education, Gerhard and Ellen
Neumaier will receive the award in recognition of their individual
efforts over the years to preserve and protect the local and global
environment.

The Center for Great Lakes Environmental Education (CGLEE) is a program
of the Erie County Environmental Education Institute. The Center's
mission is to facilitate environmental learning opportunities on Great
Lakes subjects. CGLEE is located at the Great Lakes Center aquatic field
station at the foot of Porter Avenue on the Black Rock Canal.  Buffalo
State College has plans to create a major Waterfront Education Complex
on this site.

“We are delighted to be presenting this award to the Neumaiers,” said
James Loesch, President of the ECEEI. “For many years, the Neumaiers
have worked tirelessly to improve the quality of our environment and to
increase the level of awareness about environmental issues.”

Gerhard Neumaier is founder, as well as Chairman and Chief Executive
Officer, of Ecology and Environment, Inc. (E & E), an environmental
engineering consulting firm that takes part in projects around the
world. The firm celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

Ellen Neumaier has been active in a range of environmental issues in the
Buffalo area. Emphasizing environmental education, Mrs. Neumaier has
served on the boards of the League of Women Voters, the League of
Conservation Voters and the Camp Fire Boys and Girls.

The Paul MacClennan Environmental Citizen of the Year Award is named for
its first recipient, a well-known environmental journalist in Buffalo.
