GLIN==> NEMW/Great Lakes Hill Update

     GLIN-folks!

    The latest on Appropriations...

The House and Senate have approved the Commerce, Justice, State and
Judiciary conference report

    Highlights:

The Great Lakes Fishery Commission is funded at the President's recommended
increase ($12 million).

The International Joint Commission is funded at $3.771 million

The Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory is funded at $7 million
through OAR

The National Sea Grant College Program is funded at $62.25 million

NOS Tide and Current Data is funded at the President's request level ($15
million).

The National Aquatic Nuisance Species Task Force and Ballast Water
Demonstrations are funded at $800,000 and $850,000 respectively.

Thanks to the addition of 'CARA' funding, the Marine Sanctuaries program and
National Estuarine Research Reserve Program received large increases (some
earmarked to specific sites). Marine Sanctuaries = $35.5 million. NERRS = $43
million.

CARA also funded a new, 1 year, $30 million competitive grants program for
the Great Lakes.

We will be posting details to the website - but probably not until next week.
