GLIN==> Wisconsin Great Lakes Protection Fund - 2001 RFP

Wisconsin Great Lakes Protection Funds Competitive Grants for Lake Superior:
New for 2001

We are pleased to announce a competitive grant program to support
environmental protection and restoration projects in Wisconsin's Lake
Superior basin. At this time $250,000 is available for projects which will
be evaluated by the Wisconsin Lake Superior Public Advisory Team, a
stakeholder group formed by the DNR to advise state government on Lake
Superior issues. This team worked with DNR to establish broad funding
criteria and priorities for 2001.

Lake Superior, its tributaries and their watersheds, are a world class
treasure. With this funding, we hope to encourage special innovative
projects to benefit the environment in the Lake Superior region.

The Great Lakes Protection Fund is an endowment established by the Great
Lakes states. Each year a portion, the "state share," returns to each
state. Wisconsin law provides that these funds may be used
(1)	to implement activities included in a remedial action plan
(2)	to restore or protect fish or wildlife habitats in or adjacent to
Lake Michigan or Lake Superior
(3)	for planning or providing information related to cleaning up or
protecting the Great Lakes.

Eligible organizations may include local units of government, citizens
groups, educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, businesses or
corporations, and individuals. This funding source is not intended to
cover an organization's base operating expenses or capital improvements to
meet regulatory requirements.

Priorities for these 2001 Lake Superior funds are:
60% ($150,000) targeted toward mercury reduction projects as the top
priority
40% ($100,000) targeted toward $10,000 maximum planning or implementation
projects.
