QUINN AND MEEHAN TO CHAIR HOUSE COALITION
-----------------------------------------
Reps. Jack Quinn (R-NY) and Marty Meehan (D-MA)
have been elected
co-chairs of the Northeast-Midwest Congressional Coalition for the
107th Congress. Quinn replaces former Rep. Bob Franks (R-NJ)
as
Republican co-chair, and Meehan was re-elected to his position.
The
Coalition leaders intend initially to focus on energy
affordability,
brownfield restoration, water infrastructure, manufacturing, and
ecosystem issues.
SMART GROWTH AND THE CLEAN WATER ACT
------------------------------------
The Northeast-Midwest Institute this week will
release Smart
Growth and the Clean Water Act, the second in a series of
publications
on the influence of federal programs on smart growth. The
76-page
publication examines how three water quality programs – stormwater
permits, combined sewer overflows, and total maximum daily loads –
can
affect land-use planning and development. It also reviews how
strategies for improving water quality and fostering smart growth
can
be mutually reinforcing.
The publication is available in hard copy and on
the smart growth
section of the Institute's home page.
