FARM BILL BRIEFING
------------------
The Northeast-Midwest Congressional Coalition on
Monday, January
29, is organizing a one-hour briefing on the Farm Bill's
reauthorization by majority and minority staff from the House and
Senate Agriculture Committees, and from the Congressional Research
Service. The briefing will provide an overview of U.S. farm
policy
and enable participants to ask questions about anticipated Farm
Bill
issues in the 107th Congress.
The Farm Bill's reauthorization, expected by
2002, will spark
debate on a wide range of agriculture issues, including the farm
safety net, international trade obligations, rural development,
conservation measures, as well as the regional impacts of farm
policy.
The January 29 briefing will begin at 2:00 pm in
room SC-4 of the
U.S. Capitol.

REED AND JEFFORDS TO CO-CHAIR SENATE COALITION
----------------------------------------------
Senators Jim Jeffords (R-VT) and Jack Reed
(D-RI) will be co-
chairs of the Northeast-Midwest Senate Coalition for the 107th
Congress. Reed was elected to replace former Sen. Daniel
Patrick
Moynihan (D-NY) as Democratic co-chair, and Jeffords returns to his
position. The Coalition leaders intend initially to focus on
energy
affordability, federal funding, brownfield restoration, water
infrastructure, manufacturing, and ecosystem issues.
