REMINDER: Deadline for 2001 Lake Erie Protection Fund (LEPF)
Request for Pre-proposals is March 16!

TOLEDO, OH - The 2001 Lake Erie Protection Fund Request for Pre-proposals

The focus of this year's grant cycle will be on Ohio implementation projects
that specifically address the Lake Erie Protection & Restoration Plan. This
plan consists of 84 strategic actions that are the blueprint by which the
agencies of the Commission will continue their efforts to protect and
restore Ohio's portion of Lake Erie and its watershed. The Commission has
budgeted $1.2 million for this implementation grant cycle

The Ohio Lake Erie Commission is comprised of the directors of the Ohio
Environmental Protection Agency, and the Departments of Natural Resources,
Transportation, Development, Health and Agriculture. The Ohio Lake Erie
Commission was established to preserve Lake Erie's natural resources,
protect the quality of waters and ecosystem, and promote economic
development of the region.

The Commission oversees the Ohio Lake Erie Protection Fund (LEPF). Since
1992, the Ohio Lake Erie Commission has raised over $6 million through the
Lake Erie License Plate Sales Program. This specialty plate, featuring the
Marblehead Lighthouse, was designed by artist Ben Richmond. License plate
revenue is used to fund LEPF research and implementation grants and other
worthwhile projects focusing on improving Lake Erie and its waterways.
