On May 16-17, 2001, the Great Lakes Commission will host the symposium
"Looking Forward, Looking Back: Assessing Aquatic Nuisance Species
Prevention and Control." The symposium will be held at the Holiday Inn -
North Campus in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
This workshop, sponsored in cooperation with the Great Lakes Panel on
Aquatic Nuisance Species, will examine the progress realized under the
National Invasive Species Act (NISA) of 1996, with a special focus on
ballast management/no ballast on board issues.
The workshop agenda includes a combination of keynote speakers, panel
presentations and break-out sessions. Symposium results will include
findings and recommendations that can guide the NISA reauthorization
process. Background materials will be available online in mid-April. The
symposium is funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Meeting registration begins at noon on May 16, 2001. The registration
fee of $75.00 ($105.00 CA) provides attendees with all meeting materials
and access to events, including breaks, an evening reception and lunch
the second day.
Please submit the registration form to the Great Lakes Commission by fax
(734 665-9135) or mail (400 Fourth St., Ann Arbor, MI 48103) by April
23, 2001.

Commission name for the nights of May 15-17 for a special rate of $79.00
(U.S.). Please contact the hotel directly at (734-769-9800) to guarantee

The symposium follows the 2001 Semiannual Meeting of the Great Lakes
Commission, which is being held at the same location on May 15 though
