                                FREE FISH RECIPES

So, you think you have every fish recipe known? Take a look at what
the
University of Minnesota Sea Grant program has to offer and you'll
probably find
something new, or at least, unusual. The program has several free
brochures
beginning with "Cooking Your Catch," which begins with diagrams and
suggestions
on how to handle Great Lakes fish and ends with five easy recipes. It
helps
anglers and cooks maximize the taste of freshly caught fish by covering
the
basics of storage, thawing, and cooking.

After sampling "Cooking Your Catch¹s" baked stuffed lake trout or fish
steaks
with lemon-thyme marinade, anglers may want to try recipes from
"Eelpout (Burbot): The Fish Minnesotans Love to Hate," "A Craving for
Crayfish,"
"Smelt‹Dip Net to Dish," or "Fish-wurst: Recipes for Sausage from
Fish." Yes,
that's right, fish sausage. Before becoming fully piscivorous
(fish-eating),
however, Sea Grant staff recommend reading "Eating Minnesota Fish:
Health Risks
and Benefits" and "Contaminants in Minnesota Fish," fact sheets
prepared by the
Minnesota Department of Health.

Access "Cooking Your Catch" online at
www.seagrant.umn.edu/fish/cooking.html. To
order a hard copy of "Cooking Your Catch" or the other publications
referenced
above, contact Minnesota Sea Grant at (218) 726-6191, or by e-mail at
seagr@d.umn.edu. A small fee may be applied to bulk orders. You can
also order
these publications online at www.seagrant.umn.edu/pubs/ordering.html.

Bon appetit!
