GLIN==> Northeast-Midwest Weekly Update -- 14 January 2002

MULTI-POLLUTANT REDUCTION STRATEGIES
------------------------------------
The Northeast-Midwest Institute on Monday, January 14, will co-
sponsor a brownbag-lunch discussion on how innovative technologies --
such as combined heat and power and distributed generation -- can
assist multi-pollutant reduction strategies.  Short presentations will
be made by David Bassett, with the Department of Energy's Office of
Power Technology, and Joel Bluestein, president of Energy &
Environmental Analysis.

The January 14 brownbag is co-sponsored by the U.S. Combined Heat
& Power Association and the American Council for an Energy Efficient
Economy.  It will run from noon until 1:30 pm in the Pension
Commissioner's Suite, on the second floor of the National Building
Museum, 401 F Street, NW (Judiciary Square Metro stop).

WETLANDS PROTECTION
-------------------
Senators Carl Levin (D-MI) and Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) are
seeking signatures on a letter asking the Environmental Protection
Agency and Army Corps of Engineers to develop joint guidance that
helps states protect wetlands and other waters.  The letter responds
to the Supreme Court's January 2001 decision -- Solid Waste Agency of
Northern Cook County (SWANCC) v. United States Army Corps of Engineers

-- that reduced protection of isolated wetlands and other waters under
the Clean Water Act.  Deadline for signature is Wednesday, January 16.
