Satellite image of "LAKE EFFECT" snow

This satellite image vividly demonstrates the "lake effect," which
occurs when dry and clear air from Wisconsin acquires moisture as it
moves over Lake Michigan and forms thick clouds before reaching the
eastern shore. The image is from NASA's Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view
Sensor (SeaWiFS) Project. For other Great Lakes images, including a 1999
