GLIN==> Michigan Great Lakes Protection Fund RFP

Michigan Great Lakes Protection Fund Grants

The Office of the Great Lakes has released the 2002 Request for
Proposals (RFP) for funding of research and demonstration projects by
the Michigan Great Lakes Protection Fund. The deadline for submitting
preliminary proposals is Thursday, April 18, 2002. The RFP is divided
into two focus areas: A) Persistent, Bio-accumulative Toxics and B)
Aquatic Nuisance Species in the Great Lakes Ecosystem. Up to $800,000
will be available for grants from the Michigan Great Lakes Protection
Fund in 2002.

Focus Area A addresses persistent, bioaccumulative toxics of concern.
Priority is given to projects that provide Great Lakes managers
practical information on the source, transport and deposition of these
toxics in the environment, including impacts to human and wildlife
populations at risk.

Focus Area B addresses aquatic nuisance species in the Great Lakes
ecosystem. Aquatic nuisance species in the Great Lakes ecosystem are
one of the most significant influences on the environment and have had
billions of dollars of impacts on the Great Lakes economy. Research
projects are requested that provide Great Lakes managers with timely,
valid and reliable information on prevention of introductions and
management of species already here.

The RFP is available on-line. Go to www.michigan.gov/deq then click
