GLIN==> May 30th Lake Ontario Algae Cause & Solution Workshop



Save the date for a May 30, 2002 day-long  Lake Ontario Algae Cause and
Solution Workshop.  The workshop will be held near Rochester New York.  The
event is co-sponsored by the Monroe County Department of Health, New York
Sea Grant, New York Great Lakes Research Consortium, and the Water
Education Collaborative.

Time:  8 am to 5 pm
Pre-registration:  Required.  $5 non-refundable fee.  Registration
information and details on workshop agenda to be posted at later date.

Program:  The workshop speakers will examine the factors contributing to
algae growth in Lake Ontario and the potential solutions to manage its
growth and accumulation.  Speakers from Universities, Environment Canada,
Sea Grant Extension, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will present.
Subjects will include basic bioilogy of algae growth, recent research and
trends, Lake Ontario algae bloom history, overview of past efforts to
manage algae, and new ideas being evaluated for algae management.  Workshop
will include solicitation of ideas for solutions and future resarch needs.
