Great Lakes United's 20th Annual General Meeting
June 7-9, Chicago, Illinois
"ACTION AGENDA" AND GREAT SPEAKERS
Will Great Lakes basin governments propose a comprehensive plan for
restoring the Great Lakes? It happened in the Florida Everglades. Some
citizens and regional officials think it could happen here, too.
If the governments do act (and especially if they don't), Great Lakes
citizens need to develop and actively promote our own version of a
comprehensive restoration agenda.
Help create and advocate a grassroots-supported "Great Lakes Action Agenda"
to collectively promote progressive policy, seek new protection and
restoration funding, and change business as usual in the Great Lakes - St.
Lawrence River basin.
* See draft agendas fashioned by basinwide committees
* Engage in group discussion, debate, and revision
* Help plan action campaigns
Meeting speakers include:
* Michael Dombeck, former chief of the US Forest Service and pioneer
professor of Global Environmental Management at the University of Wisconsin
* Sandra Steingraber, internationally recognized author/activist, cancer
survivor, and faculty at Cornell University's Center for the Environment
* Herb Grey, newly appointed Canadian co-chair of the Canada-U.S.
International Joint Commission
* Marcia Jiminez, Chicago's Commissioner of the Environment
* Dave Dempsey of Michigan Environmental Council, introducing the need for
a Great Lakes Action Agenda
The Great Lakes United annual meeting is being held at Loyola University's
Lake Shore Campus on the shores of Lake Michigan in Chicago. For the full
agenda and registration go to: www.glu.org
Register by May 21.
See you in Chicago!
