Great Lakes freshwater estuaries will be eligible for federal funding targeted at restoring coastal wetland habitat. Scientists and agencies have an opportunity to provide comments on how funding will be targeted through the implementation of the "Estuary Restoration Act of 2000".

Habitat Council Publishes Draft Strategy The Corps of Engineers, NOAA, EPA and U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service have published the draft strategy for estuary habitat
restoration called for in the Estuary
Restoration Act of 2000, Public Law 106-457. In accordance with the Act, the strategy
is intended to restore 1,000,000 acres of estuary habitat, ensure a
comprehensive approach to maximize the benefits the estuary habitat restoration,
and foster the coordination of federal and non-federal activities. The agencies
are soliciting comments on the draft strategy through June 17. (See, May 3 Federal
