GLIN==> Bird conservation funding available

NORTH AMERICAN WATERFOWL MANAGEMENT PLAN
JOINT VENTURE INFORMATION AND GUIDANCE FOR FISCAL YEAR 2003

The goal of the Regional Joint Venture Office is to implement all bird
conservation projects in the Prairie Pothole and Upper Mississippi River and
Great Lakes Region Joint Ventures. This includes any activity which
addresses the objectives of formal migratory bird initiatives, including the
North American Waterfowl Management Plan, the U.S. Shorebird Conservation
Plan, the North American Waterbird Conservation Plan, Partners In Flight and
the American Woodcock Management Plan. All of these broad-based plans have
regional plans covering Joint Venture areas, and they should be referenced
for specific habitat and population objectives and prescriptions.

Proposals requesting Joint Venture funds should be identified as strategies
to achieving the objectives under one of the above plans. Habitat projects
with benefits to waterfowl will receive priority, but non-waterfowl projects
benefiting other migratory birds, including habitat restoration, habitat
enhancement, population monitoring and research, will also be considered.
Proposals submitted through an Ecosystem Team will receive priority
consideration over individual field station requests. Submitted projects
should have a minimum 1:1 match of non-Federal dollars to JV request.

Questions specific to this funding program should be directed to Region 3
Joint Venture Coordinator Barbara Pardo, at (612) 713-5433. Information and
background on the migratory bird initiatives can be found at the following
