Briefing:  This Isn't Your Father's Factory

     The Manufacturing Task Forces on Monday, September 30, will host a briefing -- “This Is Not Your Father=s Factory” -- to explore workforce needs of manufacturers, key trends shaping the manufacturing labor force, and workforce development policies and programs.  Speakers will include Phyllis Eisen with the Center for Workforce Development (associated with the National Association of Manufacturers), Nancy Mills with Working for America Institute (associated with the AFL-CIO), and Leo Reddy with the National Coalition for Advanced Manufacturing.

 

The September 30 briefing will run from 9:30 am until 11:00 am in room 428A of the Russell Senate Office Building.

Briefing:  Transportation and Smart Growth

The Senate Smart Growth Task Force on Thursday, October 3, will host a briefing on how reauthorization of the surface transportation bill can enhance sustainable development and transit.  The session enables smart growth advocates to talk with key congressional staff about opportunities within the TEA-21 reauthorization process.

 

     Speakers will include:  Joyce Rose, House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee; Ward McCarragher, House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee; Sarah Kline, Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee; Jeff Squires, Senate Environment and Public Works Committee; Paul Skoutelas, Port Authority of Allegheny County; and Kevin McCarty, Surface Transportation Policy Project.

 

     The October 3 briefing -- co-hosted by the House Livable Communities Task Force and Rail-Volution -- will run from 3:30 pm until 5:00 pm in room HC-5 of the U.S. Capitol.

Briefing:  Building the Manufacturing Workforce for the 21st Century

--------------------------------------------------------------------

     The Manufacturing Task Forces on Monday, October 7, will host a briefing on policy and programs designed to address the workforce challenges facing manufacturers.  Speakers will include Jim McKenney with the American Association of Community Colleges, Joe Houldin with the Delaware Valley Industry Resources Center, and Ray Uhalde and Mark Troppe with the National Center on Education and the Economy.

 

     The October 7 briefing will run from 9:30 am until 11:00 am in 428A Russell Senate Office Building.
