LIHEAP AMENDMENT

Senators Jack Reed (D-RI) and Susan Collins (R-ME), co-chairs of the Northeast-Midwest Senate Coalition, are introducing an amendment to the omnibus appropriations bill that will increase funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) by $300 million for fiscal 2003.  That increase would bring regular LIHEAP funding to nearly $2 billion.

 

Coalition cosponsors of the amendment include Senators Mark Dayton (D-MN), Jim Jeffords (I-VT), Mike DeWine (R-OH), Edward Kennedy (D-MA), Paul Sarbanes (D-MD), Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Hilary Rodham Clinton (D-NY), Christopher Dodd (D-CT), John Kerry (D-MA), Carl Levin (D-MI), Jon Corzine (D-NJ), Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Olympia Snowe (R-ME), and Lincoln Chafee (R-RI).

BRIEFING:  STATE BUDGET CRISES

The Northeast-Midwest House Coalition on Thursday, January 23, will sponsor a briefing on the budget crises facing northeastern and midwestern states.  Speaking will be Ray Scheppach, executive director of the National Governors Association.  The January 23 meeting will begin at 2:30 pm in 2456 Rayburn House Office Building.

MEETING:  GREAT LAKES TASK FORCES

The Great Lakes Task Forces on Wednesday, January 22, will hold their 2003 organizational meeting for congressional staff only. The meeting's purpose is to discuss current Great Lakes issues and legislative priorities for the 108th Congress.

 

The January 22 meeting will begin at 10:00 am room HC-8 of the U.S. Capitol.
