OHIO LAKE ERIE COMMISSION ANNOUNCES RELEASE OF 2003
LAKE ERIE PROTECTION FUND LARGE GRANT RFP
The Ohio Lake Erie Commission is pleased to announce the release of the
2003 Lake Erie Protection Fund (LEPF) Large Grant Cycle for Implementation
Projects. The Commission is accepting pre-proposal applications and
anticipates awarding $400,000 for one- to three year implementation
projects that address strategic actions of the Lake Erie Protection &
Restoration Plan.
The Lake Erie Protection & Restoration Plan lays out long-term objectives
for improving Ohio's portion of Lake Erie and its watershed. The plan
contains 84 strategic actions designed to improve various environmental,
recreational and economic resources within Ohio's Lake Erie basin. For this
year's large grant cycle, the commission is seeking to fund projects that
will implement some of these 84 strategic actions.
Deadline for submitting these grant pre-proposals is March 14. Applications
can be downloaded from the commission's web site at
www.epa.state.oh.us/oleo. The Commission anticipates the average large
grant award will be in the range of $50,000 with a maximum award of
$100,000.
The Ohio Lake Erie Commission is comprised of the directors of the Ohio
Environmental Protection Agency and the departments of Natural Resources,
Transportation, Development, Health and Agriculture. The Ohio Lake Erie
Commission was established to preserve Lake Erie's natural resources,
protect the quality of its waters and ecosystem, and promote economic
development within the region.
The commission oversees the Ohio Lake Erie Protection Fund (LEPF). Since
1992, the Ohio Lake Erie Commission has raised nearly $8 million through
the sale of Lake Erie license plates - featuring the Marblehead Lighthouse
- and other donations. The money is used to fund a variety of LEPF grant
projects, focusing on improving Lake Erie and its watershed.
