GLIN==> Muskegon River Stewardship Week - May 10-18, 2003

MRWA Organizes Third Muskegon River Stewardship Week

Plan now for the third annual Muskegon River Stewardship Week which

begins on Saturday, May 10 and wraps up on Sunday, May 18, 2003.

The event is being organized by the Muskegon River Watershed Assembly

(MWRA) in conjunction with local volunteer groups and county conservation

districts. Stewardship Week was created to increase involvement and

stewardship in the Muskegon River Watershed.

The Muskegon River Watershed is the area of land that drains its

surface run-off and groundwater into the Muskegon River. The watershed

spreads over 2,700 square miles, involving major portions of ten Michigan

counties with a total population of more than 437,000 people.

Organizations, groups, and individual citizens are invited to sponsor

and participate in events throughout the watershed during stewardship week.

Groups are hosting a variety of activities. MRWA suggests that first-time

volunteer groups host cleanups along river and stream banks, host

educational activities that enhance understanding of the watershed,

planting of native vegetation or even canoe trips designed to explore the

Muskegon River Watershed.

For a complete list of event possibilities, to sponsor an event, or

to locate an event in your area, contact MRWA at (231) 591-2324.
