THE GREAT LAKES CRUISING COALITION, A NON PROFIT ORGANIZATION 

 

FORMED TO BRING PASSENGER CRUISING BACK INTO THE GREAT LAKES, 

 

REVIEWS THE EMERGING 2003 SEASON.

 

 

AFTER EXHIBITING AT SEATRADE THE WORLD'S LARGEST CRUISE 

 

INDUSTRY TRADE SHOW, THE G.L.C.C. REPORTS A GROWING INTEREST IN 

 

CRUISING ON THE GREAT LAKES BY BOTH SHIP OWNERS AND TOUR FIRMS

SEATRADE WE HAD CONVERSATIONS WITH CRUISE LINES AND TOUR 

 

OPERATORS MANY OF WHOM WERE DISUSSING CLOSE-TO-HOME CRUISING 

 

AS A SAFE AND ATTRACTIVE VACATION OPTION".

 

 

THE G.L.C.C. IS ACTIVELY LOOKING FOR SUITABLE CRUISE SHIPS WHICH 

 

CAN TRANSIT THE SAINT LAWRENCE SEAWAY LOCKS AND ENTER THE 

 

GREAT LAKES CRUISING GROUND. THE LOCKS CAN ACCOMMODATE SHIPS 

 

WHICH ARE NO LONGER THAN 740 FEET AND NO WIDER THAN 78 FEET. 

 

THERE ARE ALSO SEA DRAFT AND AIR DRAFT REQUIREMENTS PLACED ON 

 

THESE VESSELS.

 

 

BURNETT ALSO REPORTS THAT  "TALKS AT SEATRADE WERE HELD WITH 

 

INVESTORS LOOKING FOR SHIPS, WHICH COULD PROVIDE ADDITIONAL 

 

GREAT LAKES CRUISING COMMENCING SUMMER 2004. WE MET WITH 

 

SEVERAL GROUPS WHO WERE ACTIVELY PURSUING A NUMBER OF 

 

AVAILABLE SHIPS WHICH ARE POTENTIALLY SEAWAY CAPABLE AND WE 

 

ARE EXPECTING TO HEAR FROM THEM LATER THIS YEAR"

 

 

THE GREAT LAKES REGION IS BORDERED BY THE STATES OF MICHIGAN, 

 

OHIO, MINNESOTA, WISCONSIN, INDIANA, ILLINOIS, PENNSYLVANIA AND 

 

NEW YORK, PLUS THE CANADIAN PROVINCE OF ONTARIO, WHICH 

 

COLLECTIVELY IS HOME TO THOUSANDS OF POTENTIAL GREAT LAKES 

 

CRUISE CUSTOMERS. INTEREST IN GREAT LAKES CRUISING HAS ALSO 

 

BEEN RECORDED FROM MANY OTHER U.S. STATES AS WELL AS FROM 

 

GERMANY, THE U.K., NETHERLANDS, SWITZERLAND, FRANCE AND ITALY.
