APPROPRIATIONS UPDATE --------------------- Congressional appropriations important to the Northeast-Midwest region are available online. Of the 13 spending bills, six -- Agriculture, Commerce-Justice-State, District of Columbia, Labor-HHS, Transportation-Treasury, and VA-HUD -- await Senate action. Three bills -- Defense, Homeland Security, and Legislative Branch -- have been signed by the president, and the Interior legislation awaits his signature. Two bills -- Energy-Water and Foreign Operations -- are in conference, and the Military Construction conference report awaits approval by both chambers. The latest continuing resolution lasts until November 21.
NEW PARTNERS FOR SMART GROWTH CONFERENCE ---------------------------------------- On-line registration has opened for the 3rd Annual New Partners for Smart Growth Conference, to be held January 22-24 in Portland, Oregon. This multi-disciplinary event will highlight cutting-edge smart-growth issues. The latest research, implementation tools and strategies, and successful case studies, as well as new partners and projects will be featured. The Northeast-Midwest Institute is a conference sponsor.
