Programs for week of November 17-21

Octopus Brainpower -- People who study intelligence in the animal world
find that there's a lot going on inside the head of the octopus.
(11/17/2003)

Persistent Pathogen -- An inert and seemingly indestructible molecule is
the agent of a disease that's killing deer and elk in parts of North
America. Scientists are working hard to figure out how to control the
pathogen that's behind chronic wasting disease. (11/18/2003)

Slow to Recover -- Nature does not bounce back quickly from large-scale
disasters. (11/19/2003)

Cultivating Disease -- Efforts to prevent disease in farm animals are
creating tough new ones for people, according to a veterinarian and
author. (11/20/2003)

Durable Diesel -- Microbes in soil usually eat up oil spills over time.
At one marsh in Massachusetts, the microbes seem to have stalled, and
the diesel fuel that was spilled in 1969 is very much intact.
(11/21/2003)
