Chronic wasting disease: The interface of wildlife disease research and
management

Chronic wasting disease afflicts elk, mule deer and white tailed deer
with a slow and fatal degeneration of their nervous systems and
ultimately their brains.  If nothing is done to control it, the disease
could become a serious and long-lasting problem across North America.

Chronic wasting disease is as perplexing as it is persistent, and that
raises serious challenges for the wildlife scientists and disease
experts who are trying to understand CWD and for the wildlife managers
who are trying to control it.  Earthwatch Radio presents an online
article about the interface of research and management based on
interviews with wildlife ecologists at the University of
Wisconsin-Madison and the USGS National Wildlife Health Center.  The
